BlenRig 3.0 - Alpha2 -

This is the second release of BlenRig 3.0!!

It is in an Alpha state,  so be aware that there´s a lot of work still to be done!! Nevertheless, I think that this version is very stable and ready to be used. Therefore, this will probably be the last release before the final version is out!

BlenRig 3.0 is a Free Character Rig/Rigging System for Blender 2.49. There have been many improvements since the last release.

Some of these improvements include:

  • 1 meter = 1 Blender Unit scale
  • Double fixed pivoting for the feet
  • Breathing system
  • and of course…the Muscle Simulation system based on ShrinkWrap!!

  • 3072×1024 Displacement Map (recommended for 32 bits Operating Systems) (5MB) Link 1, 2, 3
  • 12288×4096 Displacement Map (39MB) Link 1, 2, 3

(Place the EXR in the same directory of the Blend file!)

Improvements since Alpha 1

  • The model has been re-sculpted
  • Smooth modifier with a vertex group assigned to smooth out certain areas of the model
  • SoftBody parameters have been improved
  • FK spine switch
  • The hip controller has been highly improved
  • Different locking options for the Look controller
  • Improvements in the IK/FK and Hinge switches
  • The muscle system has been improved and it is more detailed
  • A Low Resolution Model has been included for animating the rig smoothly (Layer 11)
  • Overall deformation has been improved

Important Notes!!

  • BlenRig 3.0 is meant to be used with Blender 2.49!!
  • Muscles are set to  Subsurf level 1 by defaul, therefore, you may see some subtle artifacts when moving the rig. This is solved by increasing the subsurf level of the muscles.  Nevertheless, muscles are set to level 5 for rendering.
  • If the rig is too slow, use the Low Resolution Model (Layer 11), or try disabling some of the ShrinkWrap modifiers.

TO DO List:

  • Finish the Character with its textures, hair and all!

Feedback will be appreciated, specially for the controls of the rig!!

Special Thanks to André Pinto (Jaguarandi) for his work on the ShrinkWrap modifier!

Enjoy!
